Dr. Debra Samhouri, DVM
Dr. Samhouri grew up in western New York on a farm with rabbits,
horses, chickens, dogs, and cats. She always dreamed of living in
the mountains so logically she headed west after high school to
attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 1980. She
completed a degree in Animal Health Technology and worked as a
teacher’s assistant. She lived on the campus farm and took care of
the small ruminants and lab animals. A kind mentor took her aside
and suggested she was capable of more and encouraged her to head off
to veterinary school. Shortly after marrying her husband, Adam, they moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado so she could attend Colorado State University Veterinary school. While there, she worked at a local veterinary clinic and at CSU as a veterinary technician for six years. This experience allowed her to apply her new knowledge on a daily basis. Dr. Samhouri graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1990 with two children added to her family.
Longing for rural life, Dr. Samhouri and her family moved to Cache Valley, Utah and she worked in Logan at a high quality mixed animal practice for 8 years. While there, she had the rare opportunity to work as a zoo vet for the Willow Park Zoo working with bears, coyotes, elk, eagles, wallabies, and other species other vets only dream of handling. She was also on the raptor rehabilitation committee and the humane society board. Living in a rural area limited access to surgeons and other board certified specialists thereby allowing Dr. Samhouri to gain practical experience in orthopedics, dentistry, and difficult soft tissue surgeries. Three more children were added to her brood during this time. Her husband’s jobs have since taken the family to Illinois and back to Colorado in 2000.
Since late 2000, Dr. Samhouri has been pleased to work with the Animal Clinic of Parker. She has pursued continued advanced training in the care of exotics, dentistry, knee surgery and other orthopedic procedures, and complex internal medicine cases. She works closely with local rehabilitation facilities and specialists to provide the highest quality care to her patients. Her experience with good pain management, state of the art equipment, proper medications, and excellent support staff all help to properly diagnose and treat her patients. Whether it is a gecko, rat, rabbit, bird, dog, or cat, Dr. Samhouri strives to help owners and their pets reach the highest quality of life possible.
In her free time, Dr. Samhouri, her husband, and five children raise nubian and boer goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, dogs, cats, parrots, and horses. She especially loves riding her connemara ponies, gardening, and using the farm produce in their home. She and her family are very involved with the local 4H club, Boy Scouts, soccer and church.
